Whether you’re getting ready to sell your property or perhaps your home just needs a bit of a clear out, we’ve compiled our top ten areas to clean.
Kitchen cupboards
Empty your cupboards and give the shelves a good clean – don’t forget grubby finger marks on the handles. Go through all your food items removing everything out of date. We can guarantee that you’ll find some pretty ancient treasures! You’ll be surprised how much space you gain once your cupboards have had a good sort through. Pots and pans also need the same attention.
Wardrobes and chest of drawers
Go through your clothes and sort them out into seasons – and of course remove anything you haven’t worn in the last 12 to 24 months. Pack away your winter clothes. Send winter coats off to the dry cleaners and donate anything unwanted to charity.
Bathroom cabinets
These also need some attention. Getting rid of products that have passed their use-by date will give you more space in your bathroom cupboards.
Linen cupboard
Give it a good sort out, removing anything you don’t need. Arrange your bed linen into bundles per bedroom. You could label your shelves if there’s room. Send your winter duvets off to the dry cleaners. Fold and arrange towels into sizes.
Documents
Go through all of your documents and shred/dispose of paperwork that is no longer required.
Cleaning tools
Sometimes your cleaning tools need a clean too – give the vacuum cleaner a good spring clean, put your dusters in the wash and don’t forget about any floor washing aids.
Hallway
Clear away items which linger in the hall such as coats and shoes/boots. Tidy up surfaces where every day items tend to get ‘dumped’. Try and find good storage solutions so that there’s always somewhere to put everything.
Clean behind the fridge
We all clean inside the fridge and wipe the shelves but when did you last clean behind your fridge? What better time to do it than during a spring clean? So pull your fridge out, and give it a good clean.
Clean the inside microwave
Place a large microwave-safe bowl with 1 cup of water and a chopped-up lemon, lime, or orange or several tablespoons of vinegar inside. Turn the appliance on high for several minutes or until the solution boils and the window is steamy. Then let it cool for 15 minutes before opening the door. Remove the bowl and wipe the inside and outside with a sponge – all that caked on food will wipe away easily!
Garage
A place for everything, but your car – nearly everyone uses their garage as a dumping ground or overspill! Be ruthless and get rid of anything that you don’t need. Invest in good storage solutions such as shelving, and use sturdy plastic boxes which are clearly labelled. Life will feel much more ordered!
