Today is the day of my official book launch. I wrote ‘Sell High, Sell Fast – how to sell your home for the best possible price in the quickest possible time’ last Christmas and have spent much of this summer reviewing, editing and reviewing again with my fabulous publishing team at Rethink Press. Finally, it’s launched and appears on Amazon. The feeling of being a published author and seeing my name on a site where I have bought so much for so long is weird, kind of ‘pinch me, is this real?’ weird. And amazing. And scary.

But something else is starting today too. Something as a family we have waited for for 20 years and never knew if it would happen in time. Today my youngest daughter starts taking a drug called Kaftrio, and another one called Kalydeco. This is so huge I have to keep re-focusing back to my book launch because as huge as that is, it’s manageable in emotional terms by comparison.

My daughter was born with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disorder politely described as life-limiting. In other words, the chances are high it kills you fairly young. People with CF are especially at risk from Covid-19 and we have spent most of this year shielding since she came home from Uni in March. Her life has always been a bit of a roller coaster, we have learned to be grateful for each infection-free day.

Kaftrio is one of a new generation of drugs in the CF armoury. One that promises to address the problem at a cellular level. It makes the proteins that allow the passage of water in the cells behave normally and so sufferers are no longer at such massively increased risk of infections in the sticky mucus that collects in their lungs. In other words it offers a chance of not having to take antibiotics every day, a chance of fewer hospital admissions for intravenous drugs and an increased chance of living to a ripe old age – barring stepping out in front of the proverbial bus of course.

I will remember the date my book launched forever as the day my daughter’s life changed and with it that of all our family and friends.

I hope that, for those of you who are looking for your house move to be the step that changes your life for the better, you find advice in what I have written to make that happen.  We all need positive life change, we all need to feel we have choices. Selling your home quickly and realising the best price you can gives you freedom to move on to the next stage of your life. We are moving into the next stage of ours.

All proceeds from the sales of ‘Sell High, Sell Fast’ until the end of October will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in grateful recognition of their perseverance in the research, development and campaigning on behalf of all the families like us living with CF, that they support.
